Here's what the leaders of our community are  saying about one of our shows

"You're The Star!"

“It is inspirational that a group of local entertainers have

collaborated creatively on this project. It showcases the

multitude of talent we have to the benefit of our whole community.”

Mayor Mary Sjostrom—The City of Quesnel

“The Cariboo is uniquely blessed with outstanding musicians. Growing up in the Cariboo I have had the privilege of following the talents of various of these artists in The Best of You’re The Star!   Their creativity and passion for what they do has always been inspirational to me.  It is my hope that these artists continue to entertain and create beautiful music.”

Coralee Oakes- Manager, Quesnel & District Chamber of Commerce &  Councillor-The City of Quesnel

“The debate around local versus global usually concerns economic issues.  But it can also be connected to cultural concerns.  Most of us watch hockey or the Oscars.  National and International pursuits of excellence do catch our eyes.  But what about the talents of our neighbours?  Why do they not receive the recognitions they deserve?

Eddie deSouza’s “You’re the Star!” is a program on Shaw TV dedicated to highlighting the talents of people in our own region.  It is an amazing program which demonstrates that making music is not just fascination with music from afar but can be a more real experience with those around us.

As former mayor and now host of Q today, Quesnel’s daily local news program, I understand the power of community.  Eddie does, too.

“The Best of You're the Star!” showcases the great talent that is the  Cariboo.  I give it four stars!” -  Nate Bello

“The Best Of You're The Star! is rich a gold mine of talent, affirming the Gold Pan City's widely envied reputation for being home to a growing diversity of entertainers, who so passionately and professionally please their equally diverse range of fans. It also affirms our community's need for a performing arts theatre... to which our stars can aspire and in which their appreciative audiences can applaud.”

Ron Paull, Councillor-The City of Quesnel—Ron Paull Communications

“This is a terrific production showcasing the breadth and depth of the musical talent residing in the Cariboo. Rural BC is often seen as lacking in opportunities for artistic expression and enjoyment – “The Best of You’re the Star” proves how false this belief is. The Cariboo is alive with musical and artistic talent of every kind; this DVD provides us with a strong representation of that talent while suggesting we’re only seeing the tip of the proverbial iceberg.”

Bob Simpson MLA, Cariboo North  Independent

A Message from the  CDC

“The CDC is recognized as a community leader in services for children with special needs. Many of the programs currently offered are provided throughout the community at schools, daycares, homes, and other agencies. As the needs of the community have grown, so have the range and extent of our services.

The CDC offers many professional programs including: Pregnancy Outreach, Infant Development, Supported Child Development. We also offer Early Intervention Physical, Occupational and Speech and Language Therapies.  School Aged children also have access to our School Aged Occupational Therapist. To ensure that our services meet the highest standards our agency is surveyed by an international accreditation body.

Many of the artists you will hear and see perform on this DVD have been long time supporters of the Quesnel and District Child Development Centre. Through the years JR Goodwin and Mike Morneau, for example, were regulars at our annual Telethons.  Dougal Hines,  Captain Jim, the Lamarche Family Band, Donna Christianson, the Family Brown and of course Eddie deSouza have all supported the Child Development Centre through their musical spirit.

Listening to these songs and seeing the people playing them brought back many happy memories from those days.  These artists represent a slice of Quesnel’s history, their love of music, their love of the community, are evident in the songs they sing and in the passion we can see and hear in their music.

Eddie has given artists of Quesnel a showcase to display their talents and for many he has nurtured their talent along.”
