Lest We Forget

Published on Nov 28, 2009 (c) Words and Music Eddie deSouza

"Written & recorded in 1997 with Friends around the Quesnel area,
My mother, Mrs Lucy deSouza was a Warrant Officer First Class
stationed in Karachi India from 1940 to 1945, when the second world war ended.
In the winter of 1996 I watched a lot of the war movies from the library. I got really depressed, overwhelmed by what human beings could do to one another. I felt like I had to do something to get over the way I felt.
I wrote the words for Lest We Forget and on November 11 1997 I
invited some people to my recording studio to record the chorus. The first verse features Ms. Amy Barratt, second verse William Phipps and I sang the third verse. Lets give thanks to our soldiers who fought for our freedom and made Canada such a great place to live and learn!"

The Poppy stands for Peace and Unity, Be proud that we can wear it free

Our Soldiers fought on distant foreign shores, so we can live without the curse of wars.

Freedom and Justice, have to be for all, One human race, divided we fall,

There’s been enough killing, People must agree, Put faith in God and keep our souls free

Lest we forget. The anger, hatred and pain,

Lest we forget. We dare let it happen again,

Lest we forget. The horror that is war,

When we remember, their dreams will live once more.

One man said, “Let us die not kill, our cause is just against an iron will

Though millions of bodies from this world have gone, through us their dreams live on.”

Lest we forget. The anger, hatred and pain.

Lest we forget. We dare let it happen again.

Lest we forget. The horror that is war.

When we remember their dreams will live once more.

When we remember their dreams will live once more
